The greatest tourist value of Vara\u017edin is its exceptional monumental and artistic heritage gathered in one of the best preserved and richest Baroque urban units, not only in Croatia but also in the wider region. Baroque Vara\u017edin was built according to the medieval plan, which means in a relatively small area you can find preserved traces of all historical periods. Vara\u017edin’s historic core is adorned by preserved palaces, significant public buildings, valuable houses and villas in the style of Baroque, Rococo, Classicism and Art Nouveau, as well as one of the oldest European city halls. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Many associate the notion of a palace<\/em>with Vara\u017edin and its historical attire, and this is quite understandable, considering their number and beauty. All those lavish buildings, villas, houses and churches are woven into the network of streets connecting them. And while the palaces represent a wide range of styles from Baroque through Rococo to Classicism, the plan of Vara\u017edin with its irregular, circular streets and alleys is primarily medieval. <\/p>


(Almost) every street in the historic core has a story to tell or at least a nickname used by the people of Vara\u017edin. For example, if you are looking for the street called “Du\u0107anska” or “Kod Plaveca”, you will not find them on the map, while many people from Vara\u017edin need to think twice if you ask them for Gunduli\u0107eva and Dra\u0161kovi\u0107eva Street. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Fortunately, the tradition of the role that city squares play in the social life, dynamics and culture of the city, has pleasantly survived in Vara\u017edin to the present day. The squares in the historic core of Vara\u017edin are superb for socializing, observing, commenting, having long conversations and even longer coffee breaks – offerring views as diverse as Vara\u017edin itself. The monumentality of the main city square – officially named after King Tomislav, but even more officially known as Korzo among the people of Vara\u017edin, is complemented by the wide promenade of Franciscan Square. With a doubt, definitely the best view has to be from Miljenko Stan\u010di\u0107 Square, one of the most beautiful places to enjoy coffee with its Old Town as a backdrop. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
