What’s hidden behind the walls of Varaždin’s old city center? A weekend in mid-June opens up attractive spaces that are inaccessible to the public throughout the year and turns them into an excellent platform for local producers, artists, creators, and other creatives to present their products and works.

The Festival of Varaždin Courtyards

The most charming festival in Varaždin has entered its second decade and, for the 11th time, invites you to step into the most intimate corners of the historic city center. On the weekend of June 13 and 14, the doors of courtyards in grand palaces, romantic atriums, and charming private homes will open, transforming—thanks to numerous artists, local producers, musicians, and other creatives—into small stages for connection and creation.

Nearly a hundred diverse programs will tell the story of Varaždin, each in its own unique way. A walk through around twenty courtyards becomes a true little adventure—an opportunity to meet hosts, talk with artists, taste local specialties, relax with music, or enjoy creative workshops that inspire imagination across all generations. It is precisely this sense of closeness, warmth, and openness that gives the festival its special character.

After exploring the hidden courtyards, complete your festival experience in Varaždin’s restaurants, which prepare special menus inspired by local flavors for the occasion.

The Festival of Varaždin Courtyards is an experience of Varaždin in its most authentic form – told through intimate spaces that connect its rich heritage with vibrant contemporary life.

Courtyards of the North

In cooperation with the tourist boards of Varaždin, Varaždinske Toplice, Novi Marof and the Center of the World area, the Courtyards of the North project was launched, transforming these courtyards into spaces of culture, heritage and encounters.
